Description
Exoplant and red dwarf stellar flares, illustration. Red dwarf star orbited by a planet (lower left). Red dwarfs tend to be magnetically active, displaying gigantic arcing prominences and a wealth of dark sunspots. Red dwarfs also erupt with intense flares that could strip a nearby planet's atmosphere over time. Scientists found that flares from the youngest red dwarfs they surveyed, approximately 40 million years old, are 100 to 1,000 times more energetic than when the stars are older.
