The weather had cooled off and the wind off of Lake Superior made plein air watercolor painting difficult. I headed inland to get out of the cold wind and came on this view of the beautiful Cascade Falls. the vantage point I chose provided a strong vertical view of the water. The closest waterfall provided a loud rushing sound from the 20+ foot drop and there was a constant mist that kept the painting from drying and allowed more time to work detail into the rock and the rushing water. The leaves were changing and provided warm colors to complement the coolness in the rock colors. It was another magical moment on Minnesota's North Shore. This painting sold on opening night of the exhibit of the 2014 Grand Marais Art Colony Plein Air competition.

The translucent quality of watercolor lets the paper reflect light to create an inner glow that gives the painting more life. I enjoy both plein air (painting on location) and working in my studio in Northern Minnesota. I try to capture a sense of presence and a fresh look at the subject.
 I am a member of the Northstar Watermedia Society and the Minnesota Watercolor Society. My paintings have been in juried exhibits, galleries and private collections throughout the region.
