This winter nightscape with snowy trees and swirling stars draws some inspiration from the famous painting "Starry Night" by Vincent van Gogh. As an artist who didn't become popular until after he died, Van Gogh is now one of the most popular painters of all time. It's hard to believe that he lived in poverty and considered himself a failure as an artist with only one painting sold during his lifetime.

I take this as a sign that people sometimes appreciate our work in ways we aren't able to anticipate. In this image, I threw all that photography purist stuff out the window and just let the creativity flow. It started with a vision that was born as a photograph captured near Emerald Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado before evolving into a work of art.
